In September 2006 Finance Wales Investments Limited provided loan funding to support additional product development and expansion.
Finance Wales was created by the Welsh Assembly Government to provide commercial funding to Welsh businesses. It has assisted over 1000 companies and community enterprises throughout Wales, encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship by offering financial solutions on a commercial basis.

In 2009, Santander entered the US retail banking market with the acquisition of Sovereign, which has 722 branches in the north east of America.
