SHUNT
A shunt is used as a component of a well designed cathodic protection system to calculate current values when voltage measurements are taken across it.
Shunts are installed at CP test posts. But on-site shunt voltage measurements are labour-intensive, costly and (importantly) reactive - they do not identify corrosion problems but are merely spot current measurements taken after a corrosion problem may have occurred.
Abriox’s MERLIN Remote CP Monitoring System takes shunt voltage measurements at test posts automatically, analyses and stores the data and transmits it wirelessly to a central location. Remote shunt monitoring for CP is proactive - ie it identifies potential corrosion problems at the test station or test post and alerts the operator immediately. It has important economic, operational, safety and environmental benefits.
The MERLIN CP shunt monitoring system is the ideal solution for monitoring shunt voltages economically at a transformer rectifier or test post.
