TR MONITORING CHANNELS

The MERLIN TR Monitor has been designed to carry out the functional checks of TR output (voltage and current) required in order to comply with regulatory guidelines. It will quickly repay its capital cost when compared to manual monthly checks.

However, MERLIN TR ensures continuous protection of the pipeline:

• It will alert the user immediately it detects that the AC supply to the TR has failed (and will also report when it has been restored). It has a built-in 2-3 year back-up battery so that it will continue to monitor TR output and report normally even during a prolonged power outage.

• High and low alarms can be set on the TR output channels. These will detect a TR failure independently from the AC supply. For example, a lightning strike may cause the TR fuse to blow - the AC supply will still be present but the TR output will rapidly drop away, leaving the pipeline unprotected.

Enhanced models offer additional CP measurements (ON and OFF potentials) as well as the facility to synchronise remotely with other TRs on a pipeline for CIPS (Close Interval Protection Surveys) measurements in the field.

Optional additional CP measurements require a reference cell (4-channel and higher) and solid state relay (5-channel versions).
