MERLIN TRANSFORMER RECTIFIER MONITOR

Merlin System

PHYSICAL

With external dimensions 125mm x 85mm x 55mm (5in x 3.5in x 2in) and weighing just 450g (1lb), the MERLIN TR Monitor is the most compact unit of its type available. It has been designed to fit within even the smallest TR cabinet, is supplied with its own power supply unit (110-230VAC) and fixing kit - and should require no mechanical modifications or additions to the TR.

This is a sealed, weatherproof unit built to environmental standard IP65 (NEMA 4X). This standard demonstrates protection against falling dirt, rain, sleet, snow, windblown dust, splashing and hose-directed water. The the unit will be undamaged by the external formation of ice on the enclosure and this rating also includes protection against corrosion to internal components.

A key feature of our monitors is their advanced multi-level lightning protection. Whilst it is impossible Merlin System to guarantee survival against major electrostatic discharges, the MERLIN units have surge protection on all external inputs and outputs to withstand large DC and AC voltages. On several occasions we have seen lightning blow the output fuse of a TR and the MERLIN TR Monitor has not only survived unscathed but alarmed the event and carried on monitoring!

The movie file shows an impromptu test at NACE 2008 in which the MERLIN unit was exposed to a 38kV test from a holiday detector. The spark from the holiday detector can be clearly seen; the flashing LEDs denote that the unit was in operation (receiving/sending SMS data) during the test. Following the end of the test the unit operated normally.

Two sealed lithium batteries provide 2-3 years of back-up in the event of a power failure at the TR.

With an operating range of -20°C to +85°C (-5°F to +185°F) the TR monitor can withstand significant extremes of temperature as well as 100% condensing humidity.
